Description: The project addresses a fundamental problem in hydrodynamics regarding the control of decelerated swirling flows. Such flows are widely encountered in practical applications and evolve in the well known spiral vortex breakdown, with precessing motion, which induces severe flow instabilities and large pressure fluctuations. These phenomena are unwanted in hydraulic turbines, combustion equipments and other applications, and their mitigation and control is an open fundamental problem awaiting new efficient and robust approaches.
