Title: Development of a swirling flow control tehnique for Francis turbines operated at partial discharge

Description: The present paper presents our ongoing developments of the jet control technique for swirling flows in hydraulic turbines. In order to determine the best jet configuration for mitigating the vortex rope we have developed a special swirling jet apparatus able to generate swirling flows similar to the ones downstream Francis turbine runner operated at partial discharge. Numerical experiments have shown that the control jet discharge must be as high as 10% of the incoming main flow.
