Description: We examine the application of a polynomials based spectral technique to approximate the ordinary differential equation with non-constant coefficients defining the eigenvalue problem governing the stability of the basic flow is a swirling flow problem with applications in turbomachinery. The method is based on Laguerre functions expansions on semi-infinite intervals. Important characteristics on the stability of the flow are regained using a reduced computational time and resources.
